Frequently Asked Questions

Prior to the Trip

  • Is my $100 deposit refundable? Unfortunately no. The initial deposit allows us to begin making reservations with hotels and vendors.
  • What happens if I have to cancel? A full refund (less $250 cancellation fee) will be made 130 days before departure date. Cancellations made after this deadline are subject to requirements of hotels and tour operators. Cancellations after the final payment deadline will be charged 75% of the tour cost. Cancellations within 2 weeks of departure date will be charged 100% of tour cost.
  • Do I need health insurance? Yes, you will need to purchase your own international health insurance before you come. This is a requirement for every participant.
  • Do I need travel insurance? This is not required but recommended.
  • I’m not part of a church group, can I join a trip that’s already planned? Yes of course, contact us today.
  • What should I pack? See the packing list.
  • Is there anything special I can bring on the trip? Granola bars or other “travel snacks” are a good idea to bring along since we will be walking a lot. We also recommend you bring a supply of vitamins, aspirin, and other medication in case you experience travel sickness on the bus.
  • Is there anything I should not bring on the trip? Knives, pepper spray, and other “weapons” are unnecessary, and not permitted in Israel.

During the Trip

  • How strenuous are the tours? There is a lot of walking involved! Bring comfortable tennis shoes (and any ankle or knee braces you may need if your joints/muscles get sore).
  • What is it like in winter? The temperatures between the months of October and March range from cool to cold. Water-resistant jackets, sweaters, long pants, warm socks, gloves and wool hats are needed. It can be rainy and windy.
  • What is it like in summer? Between May and August, the weather is warm and hot. Hats are needed to block the sun and sunscreen is essential. In the hill country it can be cool in the evenings.
  • What is is like in Spring and Fall? Between seasons the weather can be unpredictable. Be prepared for heat, cold, and occasional rain storms.
  • What if it rains? We will do our best to work around the rain, but occasionally we will be caught in a rainstorm. Rain gear is recommended in the winter or spring.
  • Is the water safe to drink? Yes, the water everywhere in Israel is safe, but not necessarily in surrounding countries.
  • What kind of food will we eat? Falafels and shawarmas are common for lunch. The hotels will have a nice selection for breakfast and dinner. In general there is not as much diversity in the food choices here.
  • I have special dietary needs, what should I do? Unfortunately we cannot cater to various dietary needs. At certain hotels they sometimes have gluten free options, but it isn’t guaranteed. It’s better to plan on bringing what you need.
  • What happens if I need medical care? Israel has good medical facilities. Most travel insurance policies require you to pay upfront before you see a doctor. You then send them the receipt for reimbursement. A visit at the urgent care facility to see the doctor typically costs around $120.
